Excretie of uitscheiding is het proces, waarbij een organisme afvalstoffen en overtollige stoffen uit het bloed of uit lichaamsvloeistof aan de omgeving kwijtraakt, ten behoeve van de handhaving van het fysiologisch evenwicht van het organisme. Excretie is het uit de cel of het lichaam verwijderen van niet meer bruikbare of toxische afvalstoffen van het metabolisme. CO2 wordt bij vertebraten via de longen verwijderd, via zweetklieren beetje ureum, galzouten en galkleurstoffen langs het darmstelsel, teveel aan Fe- en Ca-ionen via de dikke darm.
